Duke Nukem 3D : LAYRE (PLUTONIUM PAK VERSION) ----------------------- Thank you for downloading LAYRE and I hope you enjoy it! However before you start playing I'd like to take the time to mention a few things. First off, I'd like to thank : - Greg Page for being a fantastic Map tester - Brad Wernickle for Supplying the space and the interest for LAYRE at the Elitegames web site. and of course 3D Realms for putting out such a great game! ** NOTE: 3D REALMS DOES NOT SUPPLY TECHNICAL SUPPORT FOR ANY USER LEVELS ** ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ok, there's a chunk of new stuff in these levels. New keys, locks, ammo, interface, fonts...etc... so you're going to have to search around for most of it. There are a few additions that are not in the original game like : Health Orb The health orb is perched on the walls and can be activated by the space bar. It will restore 30 health points (which is defined in the user.con file as HEALTH_ORB_AMOUNT). Then once it's used, it disappears. Magic Orb This does a couple of things. If you're health is below 30 it will give you a Med kit. Otherwise it will randomly grant you either a Shotgun, Shrinkray gun, Chaingun. Should you already have one of these weapons, it will give you the ammo instead. These can be modified in the LGAME.CON NOTE: DO NOT SHOOT THE ORB! If you do, you will be punished. Hacked These new bread of monster has been hacked apart and pieced together using miscellaneous body parts. You'll notice them as they wear steel plates over their mouth and right eye. Digger Ammo The RPG ammo has been replaced by these bombs. The radius of it's damage is smaller than it's predecessor however they contain spikes which spin and dig their way through it's target (which makes them a bit more powerfull too) This also makes it easier to dodge when being shot at from them. Misc. Stuff These levels contain all new locks, keys, gut explosions and some more new surprises. Not to mention that there are a little over 300 new textures which you can re-use and re-distribute (please read below first) with your levels. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- INSTALLATION ------------ This is the easy part. Just place all the files in your current DUKE3D directory. Then, when you want to play just type 'LAYRE'. It's a batch file that once it starts, it renames any current art files to a temporary name. After the game is done, it will rename them back. Pretty simple. LAYRE uses it's own CON files, (LGAME,LUSER,LDEFS) so don't worry about damaging your normal DUKE ones. Should you want to edit/add or delete some of the CON stuff, all the new LAYRE actors are placed at the bottom. Once you start Duke 3D, you can choose to play LAYRE but selecting the LAYRE Episode name (I've replaced L.A. Meltdown). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- RE-USE OF TEXTURES ------------------ Anyone can re-use and re-distribute the textures in this archive so long as I receive a credit for them in your map text file. (This includes the free use of the new actors too) I'd also be interested in seeing some levels that use them. Also any feedback would also be welcome. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTES ------ These maps should be able to run in Co-op and DukeMatch. However I haven't been able to test the maps using real life players, only the Duke bots. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- FUTURE CHAPTERS OF LAYRE TO COMPLETE THE EPISODE ------------------------------------------------ I had a lot of fun making this and I'd like to finish the episode. So if you like it/hate it let me know. If there is enough interest out there I will complete it. :) --------------------------------------------------------------------- CONCLUSION ---------- In my effort to enter the game industry, I decided to give myself a little test and this is what I've done. I hope you like it. I welcome any and all feedback. I can be reached at : smccabe@cgocable.net Enjoy! Scott McCabe
